Why don't you make a cloth bag as a prize in your next collection campaign? Then it will be even easier for me to do without plastic bags. The paper bags are always torn even after repeated use. A small set of fabric paints or pencils and my kids would color the big M themselves.

Good approach, but I bet that most people have at least one cloth bag lying around at home. The cloth bags do not fulfill their purpose by being left at home for shopping.
A cloth bag depot system would be needed; then there would be no need to buy plastic, paper or a new cloth bag for spontaneous purchases.

I think the idea is great, how about fabric bags for the vegetables and fruit? Maybe with a Lilibiggs motif.
