Franz Spiegel founded a soap boiling company in 1870. The SONAL brand was registered in 1936. Wolfgang Winter took over the SpiegelSeifen company in 1982 (3rd generation company) and renamed it SONAL detergents.

The production of SONAL soap washing powder continues in almost unchanged form in an energy-saving manual process. SONAL products are only available in Vorarlberg and can therefore be described as a genuine regional specialty due to their special recipe. All products are manufactured in Schlins.
