Here, a waste product is recycled and food waste is reduced. A sensible way to produce food!

My colleagues have already given me feedback on our conversation.
We are constantly reviewing new product ideas like this; the issue of food waste is close to our hearts. In the case of whey (the basis on which the product is made), it is already being processed into high-quality products and not thrown away. Examples of such products are whey protein, products for the pharmaceutical industry, animal feed for livestock farming, etc. It is therefore hardly possible to reduce food waste with such a product.

A small side note: food is defined as food that is grown and produced for human consumption. Food waste therefore means that food of perfect quality is not consumed by humans. The reuse of whey as animal feed, for example, is therefore already part of food waste.

Thank you for reviewing our product idea and giving @rmeli feedback. However, I would like to see a more professional clarification before you make a judgment that appears to be the "truth" to people who follow this forum discussion and trust Migros.
Our startup, wood & field, is REALLY concerned about the sustainable use of resources and the reduction of food waste. Which makes your comment all the more disappointing. And it is simply wrong, because with our product we will reduce food waste by bringing whey back into the human diet. Of course, this won't solve the whole problem - but it's a small step in the right direction. And if more companies take small steps, it will have a big impact.
@Kurumi hasalready explained it (thanks!). Food waste is food that has been produced for human consumption but is not consumed by humans, even though it is of perfect quality.
Whey (the part of the milk that does not "end up" in the cheese after it is made) is a huge food waste issue in Switzerland. Every year, 1.3 million tons of whey are produced and only 25 % is used for high-quality food. The remaining 75% (almost 1 million tons) ends up in animal feed and, increasingly, in biogas plants. And this despite the fact that whey is very healthy for humans with its high-quality whey proteins and minerals.

A small note at the end: In addition to fresh whey directly from the dairy, we also use Swiss Garantie certified "whey protein" in our product ;)
I am grateful for this discussion. Our aim is not only to make a contribution to reducing food waste with our product, but also to make as many people as possible aware of the issue.
