What I always ask myself when shopping - and not just at Migros - is why is there no discount on purchases for customers who use self-scanning?
After all, the customer does all the work himself...at least I still like to stand in line at the checkout and be served by the sales clerks...I pay for the service too... our kids also learn something in the process... e.g. how to handle money...how to talk to the sales staff etc....

Have more quality of life through self-scanning, that's perk enough.
No queuing, no caddy of impatient people in the legs and above all "no goods from the trolley onto the conveyor belt and put back".

As I don't let impatient people put me off, for example when my junior drops his Cumulus card on the floor and it takes a little longer for the lady or gentleman behind the till to scan the Cumulus card, queuing at the till doesn't stress me out...so the self-scanning till wouldn't offer me any quality of life either...it's the same everywhere...digitalization is changing our society...with all its advantages and disadvantages...I also do e-banking etc. myself...but I don't have to pay any fees...

We are only in a transitional phase in this digital world... someone who works in this field told me: Self-scanning and attended scanning via the conveyor belt will also be a thing of the past again - it will be on a "variant with special barcodes" that are automatically registered when a certain gate is passed through.
You might think this is utopian - but if you look at all the digital changes over the last 30 years... ?
The discussion about cash payments is along the same lines .... Cash handling is extremely expensive - and not just because of security... So far, it has simply fallen under the guise of "public service", i.e. Migros used to take its daily takings to the post office or bank with a deposit in its own account and obtained the coin rolls from there - both were free of charge, of course - part of the public service.... Now the post offices are simply closing, and later the banks will follow suit, because this method is the only way to avoid this public service and thus unprofitable lines of business... Vending machines are being installed as a replacement and who are the "victims": infrequent users, older people ...
