Maybe roller blinds would solve your summer heat problem. I have fitted side pull blinds in the bedroom to darken it and protect it from the sun.

Air conditioning was quite expensive for me too when I was struggling with the same problem as you 2 years ago. I looked for another cheaper alternative and found this sun protection film.
found. I stuck it to two windows in my living room two years ago and it does the job perfectly. It's translucent, you can see everything from the inside without any problems, but the opposite is true from the outside. You can't even see when the light is on in the living room in the evening. It has also reduced the temperature inside by 3 to 4 degrees. So it is now much more pleasant to live in my living room than it used to be.

Do they perhaps serve the same purpose?
@Frederica: For me, even small curtain rods for day curtains simply don't stick to the modern plastic windows. I always have to wait until they fall down and then apply better glue to the adhesive part. What about the roller blinds?
