While doing my weekly shopping today, I came across mushrooms in plastic packaging. Previously they were fine in a cardboard box, so why are they in plastic now? Wasting resources for nothing? Was the buyer asleep?
I won't be buying any more mushrooms at Migros if this doesn't change immediately!
Personally, I would be happy if Migros, with all the profits they are making, would pay a little more attention to the environment and sustainability. Not just advertise it, but really make a difference. Less talk about it and more action. For me, Migros has totally failed in this case.

I have asked the product managers why this is the case. Apparently, the mushrooms in the 500g packs have always been packed in plastic trays, whereas the smaller 250g packs are, as you correctly pointed out, packed in cardboard boxes. Most stores only offer 500g packs during promotions.

The reason for the plastic packaging of the larger trays is simply the better stability, as the cardboard is not stable enough for 500g contents. It would warp and therefore no longer offer the necessary product protection - this would then result in quality problems (e.g. pressure marks).

Thank you for your efforts to clarify my request.
Please let the person responsible for the product know the following:

1. not making packaging out of cardboard because it is supposedly not stable enough is not acceptable to me. Maybe you just have to make more effort.

2. if two 250gr. If you simply pack two 250gr. cardboard boxes together using foil, this also results in 500gr. in two sturdy cardboard boxes each.

3. the packaging could also be made from recycled wood. This is then probably stable enough.

4. if it still has to be plastic, then please use PLA. It is compostable and made from lactic acid instead of petroleum.

Whether 500gr. or not, standard or not. Plastic is not an option and makes no sense for something that is immediately thrown away. Environmental awareness is at home somewhere else.
