Paper carrier bags

Papiertragetaschen

Am I the only one who experiences this? I am (was) a big fan of paper carrier bags. I have used the sturdy paper carrier bags several times, for example when moving house. We carried books (... and I have a lot of them), small items and other things back and forth in this way. The advantage: the bags can't be overloaded - especially with books - and can be used for a very long time later. After my moves, I really had a lot of these bags in stock - once upon a time ... If I buy a bag today, I'm lucky if it makes it home before it breaks. In short, today's bags may be more expensive, but they are absolutely useless.

I have the opposite experience. Recently, for example, when milk was on sale in a 12-pack: two previously used paper carrier bags, six-liter Briks per bag plus other purchases such as a kilo of rice. I was really worried that the bags would tear - preferably right in the middle of the pedestrian crossing. Well, I still use both bags.

Hello Sievert, thank you for your feedback. We have been offering our carrier bags in this paper material since January 2019. The paper carrier bag made of brown recycled paper achieved the best laboratory values in the tests for tear resistance. The load-bearing capacity when dry remains unchanged at 18 kg. If the bags get wet, the risk of tearing increases because there is no additional coating to protect against moisture. When dry, however, the material should be easy to use, which is why we cannot explain the reason for the unsatisfactory holding capacity. As an immediate measure, we will check the condition of the items. If we find the source of the fault, we will make the necessary adjustments. After all, our aim is to ensure that the purchased goods can be transported home easily. Kind regards, Alex

18 kilos? I can hardly believe that. My feeling is that the limit is 8 kg. I wouldn't have wanted to risk more than the weight described above, the bags were clearly at their limit. My arms too, by the way 😄

Absolutely agree! There was already a thread on exactly this topic but I can't find it anymore, I also said there that 18Kg would never work. In the lab with a weight ole. But as soon as a small tip exerts pressure on a point somewhere (milk tetrapack, a corner of the lower tetrapack) then rrrrrrrrrritsch, only loose oranges are missing, which then roll away nicely over the floor when this happens to you. It's nice when test results say one thing, but the majority of customers feel differently. The handle or the fastening is also a weak point because it often tears on the outer paper if it is too voluminous (on top of it is still a chip pack).

You shouldn't believe everything artificial intelligence says, but just for fun I asked ChatGPT. Here's the answer: The maximum load capacity of paper carrier bags available in supermarkets can vary depending on the manufacturer and model. As a rule, paper carrier bags have a load capacity of around 2 to 5 kilograms. However, some manufacturers also offer special reinforced or extra sturdy paper carrier bags that can have a higher load capacity of up to 10 kilograms or more. It is important to note that the load capacity can also depend on the quality of the paper, the construction of the bag and the type of handles. It is advisable to check the manufacturer's or seller's specifications to get accurate information about the maximum carrying capacity of a specific paper carrier bag. But apart from that: Try carrying 18 kilograms of shopping home with one hand...

I look like this..... always buy two and fill them to just under half.... with items that are not too heavy - otherwise they tear - a bit cheeky for the price
