It has happened to me several times now that a paper bag from Migros has torn on the way home. This is always very annoying and it becomes a really difficult task to bring the entire shopping home in whole pieces. I usually take a bag with me from home, but if I forget it, I'm glad if the paper bag I paid for lasts until I get home. Please check this when you get the chance.

Hello HinzUndKunz, thank you for your message about the paper carrier bags. I am sorry that these are the reason for a complaint. Since January 2019, we have been offering our carrier bags in a new paper material. The paper carrier bag made of brown recycled paper achieved the best laboratory values in the tear resistance tests. The load-bearing capacity when dry is unchanged at 18 kg. If the bags get wet, the risk of tearing is slightly higher than with the predecessors made of classic paper, which had an additional coating to protect against moisture. However, they were not recyclable. However, we cannot find out what caused the tearing in your case and we do not want to accuse you of incorrect handling. Please send us an e-mail to m-infoline@migros.ch so that we can send you a small compensation. Best regards, Richi

Thank you for the quick reply. It's funny, because they were never 18kg each time. However, my impression each time they tore was that something, such as a tin can, had exerted pressure on a certain spot and then the bag tore relatively quickly. What is certain is that there was no moisture involved, just mechanical stress. I have never noticed this before with other paper carrier bags, but with the bags currently used by Migros I now have a queasy feeling every time I pick up the bag as soon as I have filled it well. I wonder if others have had similar experiences.

This has also happened to me several times recently. I'm now really scared when I carry a Migros bag from where I put my shopping cart to my bike. And these are usually brand new bags that have not become damp. I also wonder whether the tear resistance is no longer the same as it used to be.
