I have seen that organic bananas are being sold in new packaging at Migros as a test. Apparently this packaging uses less energy than the plastic tags? From that point of view, it's a good idea. Of course, it's debatable whether organic bananas need packaging at all. I have heard that the new packaging would extend the shelf life?
So far I can say that the bananas have kept longer in this packaging.

I believe that the packaging of organic products (including vegetables) is primarily about clear separation and differentiation from "normal" fruit.

I am also aware that it serves to differentiate between organic and non-organic. There's a sign on the banana rack saying that this packaging uses less energy than the plastic tags and that the new packaging would extend the shelf life, or that the new packaging was introduced in this store on a trial basis. I assume it is also available in other stores, it would be strange if only one Migros outlet had this packaging?
This packaging has been available at Aldi and Lidl for some time - of course also to distinguish the bananas more clearly from the conventionally grown ones.
However, I am not at all happy with this foil: the bananas may look better for longer, but they lose their taste completely and then turn black very quickly as soon as the packaging is opened. That's why I unpack the bananas as soon as I buy them, so I don't have these problems.
When I use the first banana, I have to tear open the packaging and throw it away. So far, I have noticed that the bananas bought in this packaging are less "rotten" than before. In other words, fresher in that sense. One advantage of this packaging is that the bananas are "dry". When I buy organic bananas at the Coop, I have seen that the staff there constantly spray them and they are wet. I then have to pack them in a bag in the store so that my other purchases don't get wet from the bananas. This is an advantage over Coop.
