Dear Migros team
Why don't you only sell eco-products to protect the environment? For example, I bought the eco toilet cleaner today and saw that there were about 8 other cleaners next to it, but they pollute the water. Why are the "environmentally harmful" ones still on the shelf?

Basically, just because a cleaning agent is not labeled as ecological does not mean that it is bad for the environment. Many of our Hygo WC cleaners are readily biodegradable (according to DOC analysis: 97% in 14 days, OECD test 302 B, supplemented with CO2 analysis). There are rules and laws that are observed in this area. Here is the detailed explanation for you:Due to the growing international trade, also in the field of hazardous substances, the need for a uniform, worldwide safety standard has arisen. This is based on the United Nations' "Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals" (GHS), which labels hazardous substances on the packaging of chemical products. Under this new legislation, the vast majority of surfactants are classified in such a way that concentrated detergents and cleaning agents made from them must be labeled with the warning "Harmful to aquatic organisms, with long-lasting effects". The legislator does not take into account in this regulation that these surfactants are easily biodegradable (also a requirement of the legislator) and are therefore already degraded in the sewage treatment plant. Under this condition, there is no damage to aquatic organisms.

If a product is not 100% degradable in a short time, that is unacceptable. 100% should be the goal. Many of these ingredients are indeed harmful to the environment. Unfortunately, there are hardly any detergents and cleaning products in Migros that are only minimally harmful to the environment. You still have to buy them in the health food store. We should also not forget that even the 100% biodegradable eco-cleaning agents are a burden on the water, every agent.
I think that if you want to clean your toilet in an environmentally friendly way, you should generally avoid anything with instructions for use that say "pour in - leave on for so long - rinse - done, you don't need to scrub...".
