Mikroplastik in Shampoos/Duschgels

Dear Migros
How can I see which of your shampoos/shower gels are free of microplastics? Is this indicated on the bottle? Which of your products can I buy without hesitation?
Thank you very much

good question. i am amazed at how many people here in the community ask about sustainable products.

Hi Vegilove, thank you for your contribution. The issue of microplastics is also very important to us. We have therefore included a ban on microplastics in our specifications for suppliers - this applies to all our own brands. The acrylate polymers and other soluble polymers mainly used in cosmetics are biodegradable and, unlike microplastic particles, do not accumulate in the environment. If you also want to avoid synthetic ingredients, we recommend our certified natural cosmetics "I am Natural Cosmetics", which are made from plant-based ingredients. Best regards, Luisa

Hello,

could you substantiate the statement "The acrylate polymers mainly used in cosmetics and other soluble polymers are biodegradable..."? I have always assumed that they are not. Do you have any new studies on this?

Kind regards

Annette

Hello EttE, thank you for your feedback. We will clarify it and let you know as soon as possible. Kind regards, Madlen

Hello Ette, thank you for your patience.

The manufacturers of these polyacrylates have carried out tests on the biodegradability and fate of these polyacrylates in sewage treatment plants. The complete degradation of these substances (biological and also physical) takes place within several months. In sewage treatment plants they are removed with the sewage sludge.

Best regards, Tamara

Dear Vegilove

I recommend the "Codecheck" app. There you can use the barcode photo to find out which ingredients in the product are questionable or very questionable, etc.

Conclusion: Migros own brands generally contain questionable ingredients.

Hello Vegilove

I only buy shower gels that don't contain polyquaternium7. Unfortunately you can find it in most of them.
