Migros restaurant currently unsuitable for allergy sufferers. (unfortunately)
Migros Restaurant aktuell für Allergiker ungeeignet. (leider)
Dear Migros team. I was diagnosed with coeliac disease (gluten intolerance) a good two months ago. This has fundamentally turned my diet upside down and eating out has become particularly difficult. Today I wanted to have lunch at the Migros restaurant in St. Margrethen (SG). I didn't expect the gluten-free dishes to be declared. For this reason, I went to the restaurant before the rush (11:30 am). The first cook I asked was unable to help me. Her colleague wasn't sure about the ingredients either. Another cook then went into the kitchen to check the ingredients. The response to my question as to whether the Thai curry was gluten-free was unfortunately negative. As I was not offered any alternatives, I asked if any other dishes were gluten-free. This question was answered somewhat irritably: "It has gluten in it everywhere. That's just the way it is in system catering." Totally surprised that the Migros restaurant couldn't handle gluten-free food, I had to look for another restaurant (the largest system caterer in the world and everything is perfectly declared). This is a widespread disease with strong growth. Studies assume that 10% of the population could be affected (unfortunately not diagnosed). Recommendation: As my experience shows, the staff were not sufficiently trained for this case. It also showed that three employees were involved and this certainly cannot be economical for a system catering business. If the allergens were clearly and visibly labeled on the dishes, the problem would have been solved. I can't exactly estimate the effort involved in the declaration. However, I think that answering all customers with questions about allergens individually is much more time-consuming. I and all Migros customers with similar problems would be extremely pleased if allergens were displayed transparently in future. Thank you
