Migros with "unique fresh produce department", freshness leaves something to be desired
Migros mit "einzigartiger Frischeabteilung", Frische lässt zu wünschen übrig
I was actually looking forward to admiring the latest Migros branch of Migros Eastern Switzerland today.
After a long construction period, a Migros supermarket has opened in the Neuwiesen shopping center in Winterthur, "with a unique fresh produce department" according to the advertising. What was supposed to be a flagship store turned out to be an unpleasant shopping experience.
1. the fruit and vegetables are crammed into wooden racks that are far too small. The lighting is aggressive.
Even the sales clerks mumbled in the background that the harasses were too small.
The space in the harasses is so tight that the vegetables have to be stacked far too densely. The raffia baskets were also too full. The overfilled pumpkin baskets tipped over in front of a customer. The pumpkins rolled all over the store. What I found disgusting was that the sales clerks rolled the pumpkins back to the basket with their shoes instead of their hands.
I noticed an insect crawling on the apples. The plastic-wrapped organic Zuchetti were sweating in the excessive spotlight. Why do the vegetables have to be illuminated so brightly? Most of the Zuchetti were already browned when they were cut. The open peppers were anything but fresh. Most of them were shriveled. The organic peppers wrapped in plastic had small louse-like creatures, some with traces of mold. They were no longer fresh. The vegetables were generally crammed far too tightly into the small wooden tubs and overfilled. The red netted onions were full of squashed, drooling onions. And what about hygiene? Are these wooden trays also changed, as you can't wash wood? Disgusting...
2. bad refrigerated shelves
The old energy-wasting refrigerated shelves are still in use, which are simply wrapped in wood on the outside as if it were a new concept? The metal baskets in the bottom of the refrigerated shelves are a nuisance. The grated cheese or mozzarella etc. are unpleasantly crammed in. To reach the upper shelves, you still have to stand on the raised steps. Completely unsuitable for small people or disabled and elderly people.
The worst thing I saw was that the sales clerks had to pick up water with a disgusting rag in the refrigerated shelf below. The sales clerks first emptied the shelf, then picked up the water with the rag and then put the shelf back. The rag where the wet mozzarella etc. was to be picked up was parked on the step where all the customers were standing with their shoes on!
3. as mentioned above, poor hygiene, badly instructed staff.
