... the O is already missing in the picture. Is this a subtle reference to the dwindling 0-negative blood reserves? A Migros blood donation campaign?

This is not a mistake, but the latest marketing gag. The "O" is to be swapped for a "U" and then there will be a "Z" at the end. Anyone can then write what they dislike about Migros and have it printed on a T-shirt.

But the guy responsible for the new letters works in a Catholic cooperative and has the day off. And because the employee responsible for the "O" is taking the rest of the week off, he has already removed the "O".

The missing letters A, B and O are related to the international blood donation campaign "Missing Type". The missing letters stand for the different blood groups (O for zero) and are intended to draw attention to the consequences if a blood group is missing and no one donates.
