I bought cooked mussels the day before yesterday, which only need to be heated in a pan for a few minutes. Now I take them out of the fridge and the packet is all puffed up. You'd think it was about to burst. The expiration date is 4 days away.
Can they still be eaten? Why is the packaging puffing up?

... I wouldn't wait 4 days for an answer and go to the information desk at the point of sale tomorrow with the goods and the receipt -- they're sure to be accommodating and you'll get a replacement.

As we have not yet received any further feedback in this regard, we assume that this is a one-off quality deviation - we apologize for this. It is possible that the bloated packaging was caused by an irregular cold chain or that the oxygen content in the packaging was too low. Without the packaging for examination, it is unfortunately not possible for us to determine the exact cause. We hope for your understanding. Were you able to follow marcoti's tip and return the mussels to the store? Best regards, Luisa

I must confess, I did NOT go to the checkout with the receipt for a return.
Instead, I took the risk, opened the packaging and smelled the shells and looked at them carefully. Everything was fine so far. So I put them in the pan and cooked them thoroughly. Even though they should only have been warmed up.
Together with chips, it made a wonderfully tasty dish and my horse's stomach was able to cope. ?
It's nice to know that the Migros community is there to help.
Should I actually get fish poisoning during my next experiment, I'll ask for advice here again. (*joke*)
