Could you also offer smaller packs of the 2.5 kg M-budget carrots?
Would be mega great

To keep transportation and storage costs low, M-Budget products are offered in large packs. Smaller ones would cost a higher percentage.
Smaller packs are (almost) always and everywhere more expensive in percentage terms than the larger ones.
M-Budget prices may tempt you to buy, but there is a high risk that a not inconsiderable proportion of the produce will end up in the bin. Fresh M-Budget fruit and vegetables in particular have a tendency to spoil quickly (see e.g. customer reviews athttps://produkte.migros.ch/m-budget-tomaten ). Is there perhaps too much saving on transportation and storage costs?
Take carrots, for example:
If M-Budget carrots were sold in a kilo pack at a percentage-adjusted price, not enough customers would buy the pack of exactly the same size at Fr. 2.65.
M-Budget apples are on sale at the same price per kilo as the bags. Why shouldn't this also be possible for carrots? I assume @Michi2000 wouldalso be happy about M-Budget carrots on sale, wouldn't he ? I would love to buy them.
Given the freshness of some M-Budget fruit and vegetables, the farmer must perhaps be happy if he doesn't have to pay for their destruction. You can hardly give the produce away to Cartons du Cœur.
Or, as @Fredericaschon has alreadywritten, savings are made on transportation and storage.
Hello everyone, I have discussed your comments with the specialist department. I can tell you the following:
Migros also sells some fruit and vegetables that are not quite "standardized" in terms of appearance (e.g. carrots that are too small or large, onions, etc.). We market these under the M-Budget line. This produce costs less than the usual produce, so we can offer it at a better price. In addition, the more quantity there is in a pack, the less the goods cost to buy. It makes no difference to the transport and storage costs whether the goods are M-Budget, organic or standard.
Regarding the comparison
The higher price for Fresca-brand carrots is for new-crop goods. At M-Budget, we still have old-harvest produce this week, hence the price difference. Regarding the input with open sale for carrots: As we have to clearly label the goods - by law - open sales are only possible under certain conditions. In other words, every carrot would have to be labeled. At present, this option does not seem suitable for everyday use. We are therefore looking for other options.
We are aware that we cannot meet all customer requirements with the M-Budget packaging sizes, and that requirements in terms of quantity vary greatly depending on the customer group - a single-person household naturally has different ideas about the optimum packaging size than a large family or shared flat.
We have to make a certain selection when it comes to packaging sizes, as not every item can be available in every packaging size in organic and conventional quality for reasons of management and perishability. In any case, we endeavor to meet as many consumer wishes as possible.
Cost prices: We do not provide any specific figures. But you can be sure that the VSGP (Association of Swiss Vegetable Producers) sets the target prices, which we adhere to.
I wish you all a great day! Best regards, Sina
The M-Budget apples in our open sale are not labeled. They are simply the only Golden Delicious apples on sale. It should be possible for all household sizes (single to large families) to buy old-early produce so that the carrots... are eaten in good time.
And oops... now the M-Budget carrots are suddenly Fr. 3.60/2.5 kg. I guess they're new-crop ones now?
Whether the carrots... are conspicuously small or large, crooked or lopsided, doesn't bother me in the slightest. Well, I find the tiny Frescahttps://produkte.migros.ch/snack-karotten-274503109300 a bit expensive. Now we have :
Are these the ones that should be harvested next year? If you don't unpack them immediately at home, they spoil quickly.
Hello @Cinderella1925. Exactly, there has been a price mutation on the M-Budget carrots this week as we have new-harvest produce on sale. These are more expensive than the old-crop carrots, hence the price adjustment.
The snack carrots are a special variety. This vegetable requires ideal conditions to achieve perfect quality. The cultivation of these carrots is quite intensive and they are not stocked. Kind regards, Heidi
