The frozen 3-pack https://shop.migros.ch/de/direct/product/4894625 (made in Switzerland) has apparently been replaced by a 2-pack ("new recipe"). Advantages: - generally contains no fish - 6% cheaper (2 for Fr. 1.60 instead of 3 for Fr. 2.55, i.e. Fr.05 per pizza) - 12 minutes baking time (instead of 15 minutes) Disadvantages: - 6% less/thinner (300g instead of 320g) - half mozzarella and half Edam cheese (instead of all mozzarella) - higher baking temperature (longer preheating) - made in Germany (instead of Switzerland) - poorer quality (was previously better than Coop or Denner) I would say overall poorer product. Previously you could also load additional toppings on the slightly thicker pizza without it almost falling apart when you put it in the oven.

Could it be that Migros is now rigorously sourcing products from DE under its budget label, where previously people were used to CH products? Budget butter. budget toast bread (previously JOWA). budget pizza. budget chocolate... 🤔
This is to be assumed. But it may also have something to do with the fact that consumers would eventually realize that various M-Budget products are actually relabeled classic Migros products. M-Budget mineral water comes from the Aproz source, dairy products from ELSA, processed products from Jowa or Bischofszell, etc. At some point, the M-Classic will cannibalize, so cheaper products will be imported from other EU countries?

Yes, that's also an issue, but in this case it's something else. Brands under the cheap label are common for many and have been for years. Emmi yogurt under the Volg family price, Züger (the really tasty cottage cheese not the water-based stuff at MBudget) at Lidl/Aldi under their own brand. In general, there are yoghurts from good dairies, e.g. Nature yoghurt from Molkerei Forster ect. I think it's good to offer quality at a low price, great thing. But I rather mean that in the case of MBudget these now come from cheaper sources, e.g. instead of JOWA toast now from DE. Or the budget chocolate. And I only noticed in the reviews that every changeover is rated worse, as is the case here. I wonder if this is the direction Migros is taking.

But according to your article, the price is now set first (based on the prices of the competition) and then the ingredients, manufacturing processes, etc. are used to produce a suitable product. So there is no longer a balance between quality and price, but the price determines the quality. Have I understood that correctly? And is the product that costs CHF 1.99 at the competition also available at Migros at CHF 1.99 or CHF 1.95? Various M-Budget products are (were?) simply good and would certainly continue to sell well (even if individual products were a few centimes more expensive than similar products at the competition).

The new product is certified as vegetarian. @Bodenseeknusperli, in individual cases we switch (if possible only temporarily) to international manufacturers in order to ensure the low price guarantee. For various reasons, some established products cannot be manufactured in Switzerland either - we can hardly make a general statement on this, as various reasons play a role and these can differ from product to product. However, the low price guarantee plays a very important role, especially for selected M-Budget products, as we always have to keep this promise to our customers with M-Budget. We assure you, however, that quality is not neglected. M-Budget products are subject to the same product standards as other Migros products. Otherwise they would not find a place in our range @folio: With the low price guarantee, we primarily compare the quality and assume a good Migros basic quality. This means that we check criteria such as ingredients, recipe and performance (weight, content, etc.) and compare them with each other. Only then can the price comparison take place. Because what good is a low price if it's bad, you'll lose more customers than if you leave it 20 centimes more expensive in fine. Jenu that was my 5cents so far, just hope it doesn't get any worse, but I've already found a good replacement :)
