Supplier standards for vegetables are not sufficient!
Lieferantenstandards für Gemüse sind nicht ausreichend!
Good afternoon,
From a documentary on German television in Almeria (Spain) and Calabria (Italy), I learn that companies subject to the GlobalGAP standard do not observe the standards for working conditions on a large scale, systematically exploit African refugees and allow them to vegetate in slums.
When I read that Migros recognizes the GlobalGAP standard as equivalent to its own standard, I quickly come to the conclusion that these standards are not worth the paper they are written on.
These standards are not there to reassure consumers, but must guarantee the quality of the products, sustainable production and the fair, humane treatment of employees in production. This is only possible through regular, unannounced inspections.
I therefore call on Migros to do more to ensure that its standards are monitored and to stop recognizing obviously unsafe standards such as GlobalGAP.
I also call on Migros not to participate in the ruinous price pressure on suppliers, as is common practice among buyers from German retailers, for example. Here in Switzerland, we pay fair prices in the retail trade. We expect to receive products of appropriate quality in return.
