Inform customers more actively about current standards for fruit and vegetables

Kunden aktiver über aktuelle Normen bei Gemüse und Früchten informieren

Fruit and vegetables always look perfect on the shelves. Recently, there have been more and more reports showing how many fruit and vegetables have to be thrown away because they are not perfect and therefore do not meet the strict standards. At the moment, it is certainly the case that only a small proportion of customers are prepared to buy fruit and vegetables that differ from their usual expectations in terms of appearance and shape. I see one reason for this as a lack of knowledge. Only a small proportion of customers know what impact the current standards have on producers. I would therefore welcome it if you could inform customers more actively about what the current standards mean. Examples: What percentage of a vegetable variety does not end up on sale because it does not meet the standards? What pesticides are necessary to ensure that apples, for example, do not have spots and what do apples that have not been treated with pesticides look like? Use an example to show what standards currently exist, e.g. for carrots. The feedback from customers will give you an impression of what relaxation of standards customers would welcome.
