Refrigerated shelves

Kühlregale

Dear Migros team

I have been living in Lausanne for 2 months and have noticed that the refrigerated shelves here can be closed with a door (at least those for meat products). Why isn't this being introduced across the whole cooperative, for all types of refrigerated shelves?
Of course, you could argue that people are less likely to pick up products if there is a door between the product and the customer - sales would probably suffer as a result. On the other hand, it is actually completely absurd to heat the store in winter, but at the same time cool it down again with open refrigerated shelves. A lot of energy is lost and money is literally thrown out of the window. So it doesn't necessarily have to be the case that lower sales also lead to lower profits. This can be offset/prevented by lower energy costs.
Such lockable refrigerated shelves would also be desirable in terms of your "Generation M" initiative. This would probably make it possible to fulfill the promise "We promise to reduce our electricity consumption by 10% by the end of 2020 compared to 2010." locally.
So why not start at such an easy-to-implement point? Migros could play a pioneering and exemplary role here in terms of energy-saving measures, and I am convinced that investors would also understand the drop in sales figures in a year's time.

Kind regards
sikaste
