We are a "Migros family" and as a housewife and mom, I am an active user of your offers and your Migros app!
Among other things, the app also stores our till receipts and bonus vouchers. In terms of environmental protection and saving paper, I would love it if I could actively choose at self-checkout or at the checkout that I don't need to print out paper receipts, as I have everything on my iphone in the app! Just an idea?

There are still people who have neither a PC nor a smartphone. The paper option should remain available for them.
Now to the self-scanning. I think I can only say that the banks can also let you choose at the machine whether you want a statement. Selv scanning simply takes too long, whether with this laser thing or at the exit. Takes longer than when you're queuing at the cash desk.

As you know, the digital receipt already exists. However, under limited conditions. A person must have the Migros app installed on their cell phone and be logged in with their Cumulus number. If you then go shopping, the receipt is automatically saved digitally in the app.
But you're right, the receipts are still printed out, which is what the majority of customers still want. As also emphasizedby @Mystery1978.
The receipts serve as proof of purchase in the event of an exchange and also as a warranty certificate. On the receipt, the customer can also see how much he has saved, for example, on a promotion. They can see how many Cumulus points have been credited to them, how much VAT has been added to the purchase amount and who served them at the till.
However, the issue of "printing or not printing" the receipt is very important to us. We would therefore like to take greater account of this customer need in future.
However, adaptations, especially in the checkout area, must meet high standards before they are implemented. Even if it is "only" a matter of the supposedly simple "printing or not printing" of a receipt. Questions such as VAT, exchanges, guarantees and legal issues etc. must be clarified in such a way that it ultimately serves all customers.

How do you arrive at this statement? Are there any surveys? Certainly there are people who want a physical receipt (which is also ok and you have to have the choice in any case), but I dare say that the vast majority don't want one or simply take it with them out of habit and throw it away. A till receipt can make sense for large purchases, but if I buy a sandwich or a bottle of mineral water in a hurry, it's just a waste of resources.
If you no longer print out the receipts, you can no longer play Wheel of Fortune with them. "Not possible," says the marketing department.
I haven't tried it yet, but the barcode is also at the bottom of the receipts in the app.
One more thing about the exchange and warranty argument,
Can't something be done so that the receipts are accepted online when exchanging. Maybe save warranty receipts or something. Because if you have a 2-year warranty, there is neither a purchase receipt nor (if there ever was one) a warranty certificate on the app.
