Hello everyone. During the vacations we went to a Caribbean restaurant (but we were in Cornwall :-)) and I had some well seasoned and fried mushrooms as a starter. Apart from garlic, I couldn't taste anything, they were racy, could have been chili. However, there were also other herbs/spices that made these mushrooms so unspeakably tasty. Has anyone eaten or cooked anything similar? Are there any Caribbean spices at Migros? I haven't found anything....
Caribbean cuisine mainly uses cumin, coriander, chili and allspice. Cinnamon, pepper, nutmeg and cayenne pepper are also used. If you are looking for a ready-made spice mix, then concentrate on those with the title "Caribbean ****" or similar. At Migros, there are products from a spice manufacturer called "Ankerkraut". This manufacturer offers (on their homepage) the mixture "Island Mix" which is reminiscent of Caribbean cuisine. I immediately asked our specialist department whether we have Caribbean spices in our range. Unfortunately, we do not. Thanks for the link, the composition doesn't sound like it, I couldn't taste cinnamon at all, I think they must have used their own fresh mixture....
