But Amandine potatoes are a susceptible potato variety, which means you need more pesticides when growing them. That's a bit of a problem! Migros: Please give the free veggie bag to organic potatoes!

Salü Purzel, unfortunately I am not an active farmer...and yes, I have also looked at the variety list. I noticed that Amandine has a low susceptibility to late blight and a higher susceptibility to tuber blight. In terms of susceptibility to scab, it is doing very well, hence the mostly flawless skin. Why is a flawless skin so important (consumer demand?) Late blight is one of the main problems in potato cultivation, especially in a year like 2021. In organic farming, only copper is permitted for control, along with a few other supporting additives. https://www.diegruene.ch/artikel/pflanzenbau/auch-bio-kartoffeln-brauchen-schutz-gegen-krautfaeule-und-knollenfaeule-355745 Copper acts as a fungicide and is a highly controversial fungicide that must be applied in relatively high quantities in organic farming. I dare say that organic potato cultivation is not the last word in wisdom, because we must not forget that a year like 2021, with low yields of poor quality worldwide, whether in cereal or vegetable cultivation, would have caused a famine. Fortunately, rich Switzerland can import and has many full warehouses, so in my opinion we will not be able to avoid hybrid farming, in which we try to combine the advantages of the two production systems that have already been tried and tested, i.e. conventional and organic.
And so I hope that organic farming is not constantly pitted against conventional farming, but that we as a society find an objective approach to our food, free from any ideologies that arise from pure affluence. So, and now I wish you a good raclette season, with good Swiss raclette cheese, Swiss potatoes and a good glass of Swiss white wine, which should still be in stock. I also think it's great that Migros has such fruit/vegetable promotions where you get a free veggie bag. What I don't like is that it's always in such huge quantities, which is certainly great for families, but less so for individual households. It would be nice if Migros could also link such veggie bag promotions to smaller quantities (e.g. 500g, 1kg).

In Switzerland, there are very small households of 1-2 people who can rarely or never buy larger quantities. it goes without saying that they will then use the organic bag for smaller quantities...
