We bought a brand new pack of grated Padano cheese. Lot 201102. It smells totally of acetone, it could also be Gorgnonzola. The pack was bought new and has not been in the fridge for long. Is there a problem with this batch????

Hello globinli, thank you for your contribution. Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear that! I clarified this with the relevant specialist department. So far we haven't received any further feedback on this - thank you for your tip. The packaging may have been leaking, which can lead to sensory deviations due to the presence of oxygen. I recommend that you do not consume the cheese. I hope we can convince you of our quality again in the future! Best regards, Luisa
Since when does Gorgonzola smell of acetone? If the smell of the grated cheese is reminiscent of Gorgonzola, then it is probably slightly moldy.

So mold smells completely different. And real Gongonzola comes pretty close to what this grated cheese smells like. But it also smells like acetone :-D

Hello globinli, I have another quick question. Do you really mean the Grana Padano brand? I'm asking you because we've noticed a strange smell in our noses several times with Parmigiano Reggiano. It actually tastes normal in the mouth, but in our opinion it smells very chemical on the nose. That's why we're staying away from it at the moment.
Hello globinli, thank you very much for your patience. I have just received feedback from the specialist body. Thanks to your information, the producer was able to check samples from the same production series. They did not find any similar discrepancies. There were also no discrepancies in the production logs, in which details of the production process are recorded. For this reason, we assume that the quality deviation you describe is due to leaking packaging. Contact with oxygen and the associated yeast growth can lead to changes in taste that are consistent with your experience. We apologize for any inconvenience caused. I hope we succeed in regaining your trust in our products. Kind regards, Tabea

I have had similar experiences with the new packaging of grana Padano grated (M3L22389) da Emilio 120 gr. After only 3/4 days in the fridge after opening, with the packaging closed again and stored properly, the cheese smells very strongly of mold, although no visible mold has yet formed. Immediately after opening, everything is ok, but we have already had to throw away 2 packs that were only half used. With the old packaging, the grated cheese is still perfect after 10 days. I think there is something wrong with the new packaging.

I no longer buy grated Grana Padano at Migros; we very often bought a pack and had to throw it away after a few days (although stored correctly in the fridge) because the cheese smelled/tasted of mold very quickly and mold became visible shortly afterwards... Every now and then we even caught a pack where mold was already inside...

Hello fcorbo1, thank you very much for your patience. Good things come to those who wait. In the meantime, the investigations have been completed. The supplier found some of the same deviations. This prompted him to subject the entire value chain to a thorough inspection. In the meantime, he has succeeded in making the necessary adjustments. The results were to our satisfaction. We hope you will give the product another chance to convince you of the measures implemented. Best regards, Tabea
