When buying knives or slicers with ceramic blades, you should always check the hardness of the blade first. The grind is also important, but even the best grind is useless on a material that is too soft. With real blades, the degree of hardness is given in Rockwell, e.g. 65HRC. This stands for 65 Hardness Rockwell, tested in procedure C and would already be a good, durable blade. Better but more expensive would be 67HRC, which will never dull in a private household. All ceramic blades below 64HRC are far too soft and therefore a waste of money, because you should not sharpen ceramic yourself. There are ceramic knives with 61HRC to 63HRC, but they are thicker and have a different grind. The Migros slicer is probably a cheap Chinese product, at Fr.12.50. For a real ceramic blade on a vegetable slicer, the price should be in three figures.
