This morning I discovered peeled asparagus from Juckerhof in the refrigerated section of Migros Jona (Zurich Cooperative). I thought: Cool, I know exactly where they come from. On closer inspection, I realized that they were even peeled. I didn't buy them because 1. there was no price label either on the packaging or on the shelf (so I don't buy anything anyway if I don't know what it costs) and more importantly: 2. the asparagus were wrapped in plastic foil in a plastic tray. Just now, somewhere on the internet, Migros' sustainability advertising caught my eye again. If you want fresh asparagus, you can peel them yourself, then you don't need so much plastic packaging. That would be much more sustainable: less packaging and from the region to boot!

Human laziness knows no bounds. And in order to be able to earn something from lazy people, Migros is all too happy to throw its otherwise so prominent promises overboard. Incidentally, I also admit to being a little lazy or comfortable at times. But then I just buy green asparagus and don't insist on being able to buy already peeled white asparagus...
...and the pitted dates make the Zabig perfect. Really for the lazy among us. I think that's going too far!

I have forwarded your request to the relevant department.
The clarifications have shown that many customers would like to be able to buy peeled asparagus. Peeling creates a lot of waste and is tedious for many customers. Also, not everyone knows exactly how much of the asparagus can/should be cut off.
The product costs CHF 9.80. Of course, the price should be written on the shelf. But if in doubt, you can always ask the staff.

This development, where fewer and fewer people know what to do with natural products, is definitely not sustainable.
Those who become accustomed to processed products lose all connection to originality and nature and become dependent on the industry.
We urgently need a young generation who know that potatoes grow in the ground, asparagus sprouts up like grasses and hazelnuts grow on bushes; that you can eat carrot, cucumber and apple peelings and that wrinkly, bent vegetables and fruit were actually the norm and not the exception.
Instead of contributing to this uprooting, you could invest more of your budget in sustainable education, for example in the form of informative posters and campaigns.
Generation M would thank you.
A little more understanding for Generation M, please! Stroking the brain prosthesis or watching TV eats up time that is no longer enough for peeling asparagus. Information on how to handle natural products? Well, if that were the case, there would be no place for the "Unuseful knowledge" section in Migros magazine. Which would certainly cost the magazine half of its readership...

Wholesale determines supply of goods depending on demand.
Demand tends towards ever greater convenience, resulting in a loss of basic knowledge about the origin, production, form and handling of natural products.
Active supply design according to the described tendency is active promotion of this loss of knowledge, which is important for sustainable development (--> web: nachhaltigkeit.info).
So yes: food supply determines human development. Both physio-biologically and psychologically.
Kiosk and war? Take the entire supply chain of kiosk products; convenience where the eye can see: and yes, our production and consumption patterns are certainly responsible for crises and economic instability, and thus wars.
But I would not address the kiosk workers, but the company behind it.
By the way: fortunately, lively discussions and criticism are not only the result of hyperactive rage hormones, but also of calm reflection and constructive criticism.
