As I am passionate about shopping and also do this in Germany (because of several products that Migros doesn't want to carry) and sometimes also do my shopping there in terms of price.
I recently went shopping in Germany and was amazed at the prices of vine tomatoes.
In Kaufland, Lidl and Aldi, vine tomatoes were 75 cents per kilo. At MIgros Aare the tomato prices (vine tomato) were 4.50 Fr.
Since the Bad Zurzach branch and the Aldi Süd branch in Kadelburg are a few meters apart, the difference is huge.
In terms of quality, I would say that the tomatoes at Aldi look much better and stay fresh for longer.
You could add here that the labor costs are higher. The water prices are higher. All understandable... but almost 8 times more expensive?
Then there are the pepper prices. Both peperronis came from the Netherlands. Migros price: 5.90Fr .... the price in DE was 1.99Euro...
Why are the prices here almost three times as expensive, even though they both come from the Netherlands? The Peperroni prices in Switzerland are simply overpriced. Why can the M-Budget peppers be sold for 2.60 a kilo and the normal ones for over twice as much?
The prices of melons and nectarines in Switzerland are exemplary... they are usually cheaper.

Hello EEnergy, we share your opinion that prices in Switzerland are sometimes too high. That's why Migros is also committed to reducing all unnecessary price-driving factors and is committed to fair prices and affordable offers for consumers.
Migros has also been fighting the causes of higher Swiss prices at a political level for years.
There are various reasons for these higher prices. Simply because of the small-scale structures and the higher cost of living (high wage levels!), we generally have a much higher price level in Switzerland than abroad, which is particularly evident in the healthcare system, rents and also in magazines and advertising rates. The different needs of consumers also contribute to the high price level. In Switzerland, for example, the standard of fittings in shopping centers and quality standards are very high.
In the food sector, the politically desired and in some cases massive Swiss agricultural protection leads to high raw material prices and therefore also to high procurement costs for retailers in Switzerland. In addition, animal husbandry and environmental protection standards tend to be higher in Switzerland. Various special Swiss regulations, for example regarding the mandatory labeling of products, increase the cost price of imported goods. The procurement costs for imported goods in Switzerland are also well above the average of our neighboring countries.
The inflated prices of branded goods from international manufacturers can often be explained by the distribution structure. Migros is forced to purchase such products from its subsidiaries in Switzerland. These companies are aware of the higher purchasing power in Switzerland and therefore set the cost prices higher.
Migros has campaigned for the introduction of the Cassis de Dijon principle and the authorization of parallel imports. These two measures help in the fight against Switzerland as a high-price island. However, implementation is not easy and takes time. What is clear, however, is that Migros will pass on any savings that are made possible to its customers. Fortunately, new competitors are constantly entering the market, some of which are significantly undercutting Migros' prices. This is particularly true for organic products. For example, organic carrots at Vivida on the Solothurn marketplace cost just 3.90 per kilogram, whereas you pay 4.60 for them at Migros. That's why Migros' market share will continue to shrink or they will move with the times: offering regional organic products directly from the producers! Otherwise I don't see any future for Migros.
