I read in an article that most chopped/peeled tomatoes from Italy are not from Italy at all, but from China, and that you have to make sure that it says on the tin: "With tomatoes from Italy", but the Longobardi's from Migros don't say that on the tin. What's the situation there? Can you clarify this?

The tomatoes are 100% Italian and come from Apulia and Tuscany. On the 160g tin of "Pomodori pelati Triturati"there is (was) a flag on which it says, 100% ITALIANO?

Italy only imports tomato concentrate from China (and mainly from Spain, Portugal and the USA), as it would not be worth transporting unprocessed tomatoes or products containing water such as pelati over such long distances. The concentrate is processed into finished products, which are then mostly exported to African countries. However, the quantity imported has recently fallen sharply (90,000 tons from China in 2016, 33,000 tons in 2017). On the one hand, this was because imports had a negative impact on the image of producers in the country. On the other hand, the Chinese have now set up factories in Africa and are earning more by supplying their product there and processing it locally.
@FredericaIwould be interested in an official answer from Migros, because as far as I know, the origin may be concealed if the tomatoes are processed in Italy, even if they come from China. Is this still the case? I would be particularly interested to know what the situation is with pasta sauces in Migros (Agnesi etc.).

Hello everyone, I am pleased to confirm that 100% of the tomatoes for our canned tomatoes and tomato sauces come from Italy. Specifically, Longobardi sources 90% of its tomatoes from Puglia and 10% from Tuscany. Best regards, Sina
