I can't believe it, what is palm oil doing in bread dough? This is really going too far. Please explain, Migros

I used to be able to do without palm oil and that's why I don't buy any product that contains the "carcinogenic" junk on principle, just read the ingredients before buying and then it goes back into the rack, because I can see that it works without it in the Coop

I do the same. Coop also has palm oil in its Fastenwähen and in many other products too. What I think is great is that Migros has such a forum, which is missing at Coop.
Hello Uraca. Can you please tell me where you bought or saw the Fastenwähe? Then I'll be happy to clarify your question with the cooperative. Best regards, Tamara

Migros train station Basel SBB
I assume the Basel cooperative?↵https://migipedia.migros.ch/de/forum/echte-basler-fastewaehie-fastenwaehe?backtoboard=q%3DFasten%26p%3D1%26sort%3Dlast_activity&reply=3ad7189d-d762-4079-a35e-6e958cad9835 at least that's what they were talking about here. And I'd love it if it could make it to eastern Switzerland next year without palm oil, please😀
Hoi Bodenseeknusperli, I have made enquiries and unfortunately have to inform you that the Genossenschaft Ostschweiz has no plans to offer the Fastenwähe in the future. Kind regards, Angela

Hello Uraca, here is the statement from Migros-Basel: A margarine containing a proportion of palm oil is used to make the traditional "Faschtenwaie" yeast pastry. Palm oil is only ever a component of fat mixtures made from various oils/fats such as rapeseed, sunflower or, as in this case, margarine. In various tests, we have tried to replace the margarine with palm oil with other fatty substances. Unfortunately, none of the recipes we tested matched the existing quality of "Faschtenwaie", so we decided to continue using margarine with palm oil for quality reasons. Kind regards, Sina

Hi Sina, thanks for the answer. Apparently it was possible in the past and still is except for Migros and Coop. Will probably be a cost issue again? I now buy these from a bakery that doesn't use palm oil and they taste very good.
