Theft

Diebstahl

Hello dear community

Something stupid "happened" to my best friend yesterday in a Migros store in Bern.

A little preliminary information: Her handbag, including her wallet, was stolen recently. So yesterday she was not in possession of her personal ID or postcard - so she had to rely on her cash to pay for her shopping.

Shortly before the checkout, she took the time to check again whether she had enough money to pay for everything. That's when she realized that she didn't have enough by about 50 centimes. Frustrated and without thinking twice, she put one of the two items (worth around CHF 3.50) she wanted to buy into her jacket and went to the checkout.

I have to add that she had never stolen anything in her life before (neither had I, by the way ;) ) and must have been more than stupid.
Of course, she was then immediately "caught" by a detective. Without hesitation, she admitted everything and apologized.

Of course, she is prepared to pay the fine of 150 francs and she also understands that her data can be stored internally at Migros for 5 years, but she cried for a good 2 hours with me yesterday because she was terribly worried about 2 questions that she didn't ask in her hectic and nervous state:

-She is currently a student and is currently applying for various part-time jobs. Some of them with the Migros Group. Are these "thief data" also visible to the HR people?

-She is studying social work and cannot afford any entries in her criminal record, can she expect to be reported?

Thank you very much for your answer :)

By the way, I realize that her behavior was not ok. She really only needed something for "Znacht" and her postcard and ID were stolen recently. Otherwise she would never have stolen anything - I'm sure of that!

I think greedy is the wrong word here in this context... probably more "reckless" or "desperate".

I also don't like to speak for or about them in the third person. I can only say - since I'm also a student - that it's really not easy to survive as a student if you don't get everything paid for by your parents.
There are plenty of people who have nothing left in their bank account at the end of their studies with a 100% job, and it's not exactly easy to keep your head above water as a student with a 40% part-time job and a 100% degree. In addition, as I said, her handbag was stolen. It contained all her important cards, which meant she couldn't get any money for over a week.

No, she probably wouldn't have starved to death, but not being able to eat all day and then not being able to buy anything in the evening isn't exactly nice either. If I were her, I would probably have just asked someone if he/she could borrow 50 centimes...

Well, it was probably a stupid decision on her part, but I don't think it should ruin the rest of her life.

Besides, she's not currently employed by Migros. As far as I know, she's currently looking for a job and would also like to apply to a Denner branch (maybe I'm wrong)...
The only question is whether this "thieves' database" can also be viewed by Human Resources.

"A shoplifter would never have joined our team. Especially not if it was a temp.
I'm very curious to see how Migros works internally."

Maybe you've even hired a "thief" without knowing it? And maybe this person was even one of your best employees?

My father was also an independent entrepreneur for a long time. He once had an employee who he really liked. Years later, she confessed to him that she used to be a heroin addict **bleep**.
So everyone has some things in life that we are not proud of (in some cases a bit more extreme, in others less), but we should all deserve a second chance, shouldn't we?

I would like to add once again:

I am of course absolutely against any form of fraud, theft, etc.
I personally study theology and simply believe in a second chance. Nevertheless, there should be no discussion here now. I apologize for my emotional reaction.

I would have been happy to simply answer the questions I asked at the beginning regarding reporting and internal data transfer.

I used to work at the checkout at Migros and at that time thieves were not reported for small thefts like 3.50Fr. Twice I caught customers stealing small items and there were no consequences for them. But depending on the case, it's probably also a matter of discretion for the store manager.

Good morning @Sareya

I assume that the incident will not have any consequences and the amount is the compensation for the circulation!

Hi Sareya

For data protection reasons, we are not allowed to give any information to third parties.

If your colleague would like to have her questions answered, she should contact the Migros Aare security service in person.

She will find the contact details on the report she received.

Best wishes and have a nice day
