Is Migros (once again) trying to make me feel guilty? The new "Cumulus Green" is annoying, but it suits Migros perfectly.
Imagine my balance with Cumulus Green was 0%. Was I surprised? NO! Migros can't know that we get almost all our vegetables and salad from our own garden. Dear Migros: it couldn't be more sustainable! We often buy fruit from local farmers, and I have a dear friend who buys eggs from happy chickens (and if he doesn't have any, I go to the farmer where I can see the chickens running around in the yard). My furniture is old, but it is more ecological to continue living with it instead of buying new furniture from Micasa. I do look at the energy consumption of electrical appliances, but I only buy something new if I really need it and not because a more modern model has been launched on the market. Fortunately, there are cheaper retailers than M-electronics!
I've been buying very little from Migros lately anyway. Why? Migros has increasingly abandoned its origins and is hardly any different from Coop. I prefer to go straight to the cheaper but good suppliers Aldi or Lidl.
Reading the magazine has also become so annoying recently that I almost only leaf through it. But that's a completely different topic!
The fact is that Migros always presents itself as super "green", super "ecological", super "sustainable" and as the "savior of our climate". The new Cumulus Green fits seamlessly into this hypocritical philosophy.
Unfortunately, the orange giant's behavior speaks a different language. With unspeakable paper emissions, a few people could/can go on vacation for free, not to mention by plane! I would generally prefer lower prices!
Furthermore, the immense paper output is also annoying, e.g. with the various "Mania" campaigns. I almost have "Migros mania"! When I think of all the unnecessary paper that is wasted for each of these promotions... BUT: if you don't get a 5 Fr. receipt in a Cumulus period, ecology suddenly plays a central role again, and you don't get any mail and therefore no other checks (especially 5x points in the supermarket)! When asked, the answer was actually that this was not done for ecological reasons! It really doesn't get any more hypocritical than that!
Migros has (become) like any other large corporation! Customer loyalty at any price, whatever the cost (paper). It's a shame that many consumers are naive and don't realize it.
That's why "Cumulus Green" fits Migros quite well (could also be applied 1:1 at Coop). If Migros were really serious, there are many points that the group could address itself, but this would inevitably result in a loss of sales, which Migros obviously doesn't want. I am aware that Migros has to earn money, but as long as there is such a wide gap between words and deeds, I will not pay any attention to "Cumulus Green", let alone set a personal target. I see the whole thing as just another PR campaign by Migros (and WWF).
