Disposable coffee capsules are an ecological disaster. There are compostable capsules on the market, please Migros propose a choice of such a product, it's urgent! Thank you in advance.

Hello Klarim, and thank you for your message. For the time being, Migros is knowingly marketing coffee capsules in normal plastic and not in compostable bioplastic. Contrary to popular belief, biodegradable plastic is no more eco-friendly than normal plastic, mainly because of the way it is produced. And for good reason: biodegradable plastic is made from corn or sugar cane, the cultivation of which requires many liters of water, fertilizers and pesticides, polluting soil and groundwater. That's why, in our view, bioplastics are not currently the best solution. However, we are keeping a close eye on developments in this field. When it becomes possible to manufacture biodegradable plastic from organic waste, a real turning point could be reached. Sincerely, Heidi

Thank you for your sensible reply. You've convinced me to use refillable multi-purpose capsules, as plastic is clearly not a viable solution. Best regards, Klarim

Karim, where can I find the capsules you're talking about? Thank you

Hello, perhaps Migros now offers them...? In the meantime, on the Internet, or in bulk grocery stores like Bokoloko in Vevey. Unfortunately, I don't know the brands, as I only use the good old delicious Italian coffee maker. Best regards

How about forgetting plastic and thinking about recycled, biodegradable cardboard? Or other vegetable fibers considered as "waste"...? Migros, you could innovate here ; ) Otherwise, where I live (canton of Vaud), there are rubbish bins that recycle hard plastic, so if your capsules can be composted, they're rinsed out and off you go! Even in your collection areas for recyclable waste (including plastic packaging) at Migros, this could be a possibility... And then again, Nespresso recycles its aluminum capsules, doesn't it...? So why not opt for aluminum, which also has a high recyclability quotient...? Sincerely

Good evening and thank you for your detailed reply. However, do you please take back used capsules for composting of the grounds and recycling of the aluminum, as Nespresso or certain waste collection centers do, for example? Kind regards

Hello LadyInBlack, At home or at the office, Café Royal aluminum capsules can be easily collected in a container or bag, such as Café Royal's resealable recycling bag. A recycling bag is available free of charge from https://www.cafe-royal.com/fr-ch. You can then drop off your used aluminium capsules at a Migros recycling point. Since the end of January, every Migros store has been equipped with a corresponding container or drop-off point for aluminium capsules. It is important to return only aluminum capsules for recycling. Depositing capsules made of other materials considerably complicates the recycling process. Best regards, Sina
