Good day
Whenever I buy a cake, be it MC Lemon Cake or Grosis Branchli Cake. I always wish for a knife to go with it. I always buy it and then you don't think about the knife or you buy it on the way and don't have a knife with you. I always cut it with a piece of cardboard that I have torn out of the packaging. I think it would be great if there was a cardboard knife or plastic knife in one place.
So you want even more waste that perhaps 1% of buyers would use? Why don't you take a pocket knife with you? I would understand this if a cake was a take-away product, but you would have to bring a knife with everything you eat on the go.

I always have a small pocket knife in my trouser pocket or handbag. It's been a hit at various barbecue parties, as the plastic knives often don't cut or break well.
Just don't! It's bad enough that you have to buy (and pay for) plastic cutlery for countless items (recently even for some canned fruit) without being asked for it. In the past, if you needed something like this as an exception, you would ask for it at the checkout. Nowadays, of course, this is no longer possible despite all the sustainability claims. It's better to spoil the few customers who are too lazy, too thoughtless or too convenient to organize themselves, at the expense of the majority and the environment, and thus educate them even more to be wasteful, as this curious demand for cake knives shows. The next one will probably demand a plastic bread knife with every loaf of bread and a plastic armor knife with every apple...
Strangely enough, plastic cutlery is never an issue, it's only the plastic bags that are the subject of a big fuss.
PS: I once bought a ready-made salad on a bike tour in Austria. At the checkout, I was given a foldable yet quite sturdy piece that was a spoon at one end and a fork at the other. Since then, I've always had it in my rucksack and have been using it for spontaneously bought salads, yoghurts, ice cream etc. for almost 10 years now.
@Federwolke: The "spork" you mentioned is also available in Switzerland with the ready-made salads, but I'm not quite sure whether it's at Migros or Coop. I always have one of these in reserve, which I reuse dozens of times.

As promised, I'm sending you another update from our packaging specialists. For sustainability reasons, it is not planned to generally include a (plastic) knife with the cakes.
However, a great solution is of course to recycle your plastic cutlery - as recommended by@Bodenseeknusperli,@stecki,@Federwolkeand@moz79- or bring a small pocket knife (thank you for your input, by the way!).
If you still don't want to do without a disposable knife, it's best to ask at the checkout - in most cases plastic cutlery is offered there. Does that help you@Menzi98?
