Butterzopf - Buurezopf : Confusion due to identical packaging

Butterzopf - Buurezopf : Verwechslung wegen gleicher Verpackung

Guest

In my shopping area there is an MMM with an in-house bakery and its own sales counter and a newly renovated MM with an in-house bakery but without its own sales counter (previously it had its own sales counter).

At the sales counter there was only the Butterzopf - this is light, fluffy and slightly lighter in color and was baked in the in-house bakery - sometimes it was still warm, wrapped in a neutral brown bag. In the shop there is also the Buurezopf - this is dense, heavy, puffy and yellowish and is probably baked in Gossau SG - advertised as fresh ¬ handmade.

When these two products are on sale in a supermarket without a sales counter - with similar names, almost identical packaging and stacked on the shelf in alternating and ever-changing piles - I sometimes get confused when shopping. You can now say "Zopf is Zopf" at the breakfast table at home or say to those who refuse to eat Buurezopf: "Bird - eat or die" - but that doesn't help me much, because the Buurezopf is simply not eaten or only eaten reluctantly.

I would welcome it - because the name itself is so similar - that something would be changed to the almost identical packaging, because I am sure that there is also this confusion among the filling staff, otherwise the sales location would always be the same and not alternate...

Hello Ilgen, thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I would like to pass it on to the relevant specialist department. Can you please tell me which branches you visit? Kind regards, Sina

Hi Sina - thanks for the reply. It's Migros Ostschweiz - the exact branch is not relevant, because the changing location is not necessarily a mistake on the part of the staff restocking. It could also be customers who put the wrong Buurezopf/Butterzopf back in the wrong place because it is difficult to tell them apart, and I fell for the same reason... and I don't want an unjustified reprimand for the staff concerned.

Hello Ilgen, your request has been placed with the relevant specialist department. In fact, the bags are almost identical. However, the Buurezopf is also made "fresh and handmade" in the in-house bakery on site. The difference is that only the Buurezopf weighs 700g. All other fresh and handmade plaits are lighter or heavier. So if you are ever unsure whether you have the "right" braid in your hand, you can use the weight as a guide. Kind regards, Matteo

Thanks for the answer - I will look carefully at the weight of 500g (instead of the 700). I relied too much on the "perceived size", because these are - because the 700g braid is more compact, denser - about the same size, same bag, same font with the same blue "For the region" label, the difference is only letters 3-5 or 3-6 of the 9 or 10 letter long labeling. These all-important 3 cm can simply be overlooked if there is still a crease inside. For me, the matter is settled.
