Why don't you offer unsold bread the following day in a box at half price? Aldi Suisse and Lidl Switzerland already do it. Migros Lucerne already does it too...why not the rest of Switzerland?

Thank you for the input. Exactly, Migros Lucerne has introduced this and we think it's a good thing. As we are organized in individual cooperatives, they can decide such things themselves. The cooperatives are in a lively exchange and I'm sure that the others want to know exactly what the experiences are like in Central Switzerland. They can also adopt the system or benefit from the experience in general. I can therefore not tell you directly that this is also planned in other places, but if you would like to know for your cooperative, I would be happy to clarify this for you.

In the Migros Cooperative Lucerne, the bread is sold the following day in the Migros outlets. This is not an option for the Aare cooperative, as its outlets are not supplied daily. This would result in additional transportation, which makes no ecological sense. However, the Aare Cooperative already has various measures in place to counteract food waste, including in the bread sector. They give the unsold bread to farmers and livestock owners if there is demand at the store location. The leftover bread does not end up as waste. These leftovers end up in the biogas plant, which generates energy. The Aare Cooperative is constantly looking at new ways to recycle food with as little waste as possible. I hope you can understand our explanation.

We are currently running a pilot project in three stores (Menziken, Lostorf and Bern Bethlehem) in which we are selling bread from the day before until 12:00 noon. We are monitoring this pilot closely. It is not yet clear how long the test will run. It is also not yet clear whether we will extend it to other branches in the future.
