Large packages lead to food waste in the food sector and also cause more waste in the non-food sector. In addition, the ever smaller apartments are also poorly suited as storage rooms. When will this increasing madness finally be stopped?

Hello MigiLady, XXL items are usually foods that can be stored for longer or frozen well, or items that can be stored well. However, you are welcome to give us specific examples and we will check them with the relevant specialist department. Best regards, Mia

Hi Mia Examples of this week's food promotions: 2 cucumbers cheaper than 1 cucumber bunch of asparagus 500g-1kg, crispy chicken 1.4kg, prawns 750g, 3 large Buitoni pizzas, pack of 16 cornets, Aproz small 24x50cl etc. Non-food promotions: total liquid detergent 5 liters, total powder 6.360 kg Nivea shampoo 3 pack Nivea bubble bath 750 ml etc. I also like to take advantage of promotions. Even if I don't live with an XXL family. I don't feel like eating the same thing for days on end and I appreciate fresh products, not things that have been lying around in the freezer for weeks. Like most people, my apartment (including fridge, freezer, bathroom cupboard and laundry compartment) is not particularly large.
Examples?
Dear or dear Coacoa200 I have just sent examples to Migros. Greetings MigiLady

So: Migros also has families who shop at Migros (like other retailers). (Just like the other retailers)... If you only offer all offers to single households, they will then feel disadvantaged. Discounts are usually financed by margins, which in turn are better sold with large packs. The Aproz 50% was recently available in packs of 6 at 50%... now there are just 24 packs... Total is also usually available where all Total is reduced.
Nivea is also available several times where the whole Nivea range is reduced by 50%. Then you just buy a larger quantity. Personally, many promotions don't appeal to me either, because my freezer at home is far too small. Or I would like a change. I see more of a problem that some brands are never reduced and some are reduced a lot and often. Let's wait and see what Migros thinks about this.

Hello dear MigiLady, thank you very much for your examples. We understand your point - of course you don't want to buy a large pack if you know that it will take a long time to use up the goods. It cannot be denied that one- and two-person households, especially in urban areas, represent a growing part of the Swiss population. We are trying to accommodate this trend as far as possible by already offering smaller portions of many items. As a wholesaler, we have to take a wide range of customer expectations into account when choosing our products. The amount of packaging and the production costs for smaller packs are often not much lower than for "normal" or "large" packs. The small portions are therefore more expensive in comparison, which is why many consumers continue to prefer the usual or even the larger pack sizes. The ever-increasing range of self-service fruit and vegetables and the open sale of meat, bread, patisserie, cheese and, to an increasing extent, also Traiteur dishes are improving the opportunities for small households to shop according to their own needs. Many foods such as rice, flour and pasta have a very long shelf life if stored correctly. We are aware that these measures do not satisfy all points of criticism, but we would like to show you that we are constantly addressing this customer need and looking for solutions. Kind regards, Angela

Hello Angela, thank you very much for your reply and thank you for your understanding. It's nice that Migros also takes care of small households. In the vicinity of Migros Zurich Brunaupark, there are really mostly small households. Open sales of fruit and vegetables are therefore very important. As I said, I believe that smaller portions are also a good way of combating food waste. Today, for example, I could have bought a large bag of prawn tails for the same price as a small bag. (But I didn't do it because I was afraid that prawns would end up in the bin. But I don't think many people do that.
