So what is the strategy for removing conventionally produced products from sale? Is it necessary for conventionally produced products (e.g. carrots, broccoli, lamb's lettuce, beetroot, etc.) to be offered alongside organic products? Provided that there are enough organically produced products available, please no longer offer the others.

We will continue to expand our range of organic products this year. However, conventionally produced food will still be on the shelves. There are several reasons for this: Organic food is more expensive than conventionally produced food. However, we want to offer everyone in Switzerland good products that are affordable for all budgets. In addition, organic products are not always available in the required quantities. It is therefore not yet possible to cover all needs with organic products. Migros is also taking a different approach and is working on making conventional products as sustainable as possible. The question is also, why should conventional products be removed from the range? If you want to buy organic, OK, but why should Migros force this on all its customers? It's still a supermarket and not a health food store - fortunately!

A nice example are the yellow turnips (elsewhere also called turnips, lat. Brassica napus var. napobrassica) a typical local winter vegetable .... ;-)
Only 2-3 years ago, Migros sold these vegetables for 2-3 months at a unit price of CHF 1-2 for a single weight of approx. 800g-1kg, today they are thickly wrapped in cellophane paper, weigh at most 500g, but usually much less and you therefore need 2-3 pieces and the unit price is - because organic - around CHF 3.50.
So thanks to this packaging and proof of origin, the price has become 5-10 times more expensive for an originally "poor people's food" .... just because it is organic. When I was young, the big 1kg ones were for people and the small ones were used as pig feed....
Now you can only get autumn turnips (Weisse Räben, Zürcher Selection) in November at a unit price, but probably not because they are used as food, but because they are used for the Räbeliechtli and the relevant kindergarten parades....

Keyword: more and more people need more and more resources on our planet. In addition, the percentage of expenditure on food has fallen massively in recent decades. From around 50 % of income in the past to around 7-11 % today (depending on the study). I believe that for the majority of the Swiss population, the additional expenditure on organic food is very manageable. When I see what else a lot of money is thrown out the window for (e.g. private firework displays on New Year's Eve, ...). In addition, there is certainly also the poorer part of the population who really have to turn over every cent. They should certainly also find a varied range of affordable food. But everyone else should think about where they can make a contribution to the environment. For example, by buying organic products.
