Organic bananas

Bio Bananen

Dear Migipedia community and community team,

I have a question, why can't you buy organic bananas individually? Or am I just blind?

Hello@Mystery1978

At first I wasn't sure whether the organic bananas were really not available individually. That's why I quickly asked a cooperative and got the following answer: It is correct that we do not sell organic bananas individually.Since we offer the WWF bananas (from sustainable cultivation) in open sale, it is unfortunately currently not possible to sell the organic bananas individually in addition. The problem is that not every organic banana has an organic sticker on the peel and therefore a mix-up (organic banana / WWF banana) cannot be ruled out when weighing the goods. We do not consider it sensible to label every organic banana with a corresponding sticker.

Kind regards, Nina

Good morning @Nina_Migros

This year the small aromatic organic bananas from Madeira were offered for the first time for a short time and they had to be weighed because they were offered open.

For my part, I suspected that the organic bananas are offered en Vrac because the crown is sealed with a film/scotch/adhesive tape so that the fruit keeps longer and the ripening gas ethylene is retained.

Best regards

Frederica

Yes ok, but if you sell bananas by the bunch it's just too much and then half of them fly. I think every WWF banana has a sticker. Otherwise there's a compartment next door for the organic bananas for all the other things too, or am I wrong?

@Frederica the organic bananas are not always sealed, are they? I didn't mean that, but it may not be the same everywhere. But yes, with the small bananas there is probably no danger of confusion, which is why they could probably be offered openly without any problems.

I personally know the problem too @Mystery1978 and therefore buy the others if there are no small bunches of organic bananas. I also think it's a shame, but as I mentioned, the organic bananas are not labeled, so the stores would have to put a sticker on every banana. That's the often criticized thing about organic products, that they are wrapped or have stickers on them (apples) but you have to be able to recognize them as organic, even if you have them in your shopping basket or trolley. Maybe something will change in the future :)

Sunny greetings and have a happy weekend!

Yes, that's right! The ones I bought last Thursday that were still green were not sealed. Might have something to do with the climate, because I can't remember when I put unglued ones in the Caddy.

By the way:
...I only eat bananas in fruit salad, which is eaten every morning and sometimes in the evening.
...ended up in the caddy 16 times this year, i.e. ~ 675 g every third week.
...do not ripen quickly, as they are stored in the mill in a room with 90cm thick walls, which is 3°C in winter and does not reach 17°C in summer.

Winter greetings from the Bernese Jura

O.kl vefsteh I or so that you don't have to label each one, hang it up as before, simply without a barcode with a different number, where you can tear off the bunch. That would also be a solution for the WWF bananas.

Have a nice weekend everyone, wrap up warm ?
