Why not a peanut butter without sugar (with sweetener) and above all without palm oil (if necessary with oil rich in omega 3). Packaged in small, affordable jars, in crunchy or creamy versions. Use in cooking (curries, etc.) or for snacks/breakfast.
Would be great for kids, teens and adults. An appetizing snack to be eaten American-style with banana slices and a touch of jam, and without a guilty conscience.
Many thanks for your message! We don't currently offer any palm-oil-free peanut butter in our range. However, your suggestion has been passed on to our marketing department.
Palm oil is an important raw material in the food industry. It is used in the manufacture of products such as margarines, sauces, soups, edible fats, frying oils and fats, ready meals, bakery products, chocolates, ice creams, cosmetics and cleaning products. However, there are also major environmental concerns: entire tropical forests are often deforested to make way for palm oil plantations. To tackle this problem, Migros, in collaboration with WWF, drew up the world's first criteria for sustainable palm oil production back in 1999. In 2002, at the UN Earth Summit in Johannesburg, Migros was rewarded for its pioneering role in this field.
In 2004, Migros co-founded theRound Table on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) with WWF and other companies, with the common aim of improving palm oil production worldwide. The organization is made up of representatives from palm plantations, the manufacturing industry, social and environmental organizations, banks and retailers. Based on the criteria developed by WWF and Migros for the sustainable production of palm oil, the RSPO drew up the "RSPO Principles and Criteria", adopted in November 2005 in Singapore. The RSPO Principles and Criteria improve the production of one of the most widely used oils on the market. As all players in the palm oil trade are represented in the RSPO, these criteria enjoy widespread support. Migros has played a leading role in this process.
Every year, Migros industrial companies process around 6,000 tonnes of palm oil, while a further 3,000 tonnes are used by third-party suppliers. Since 2008, Migros has required all suppliers using palm oil to purchase GreenPalm certificates corresponding to the quantity of palm oil processed (a system similar to that for green electricity). Already today, all the palm oil used by Migros industrial companies is covered by GreenPalm certificates. This already applies to the vast majority of products in our range. In this way, Migros supports the sustainable production of palm oil. Third-party suppliers are also asked to gradually replace all palm oil used in Migros products with oil from sustainable cultivation. Following its commitment to WWF and RSPO Migros has used only sustainable palm oil in almost all its products since the end of 2015.
Palm oil certified according to RSPO guidelines has been available on the market since autumn 2008. The quantities available are constantly increasing, thanks to the growing number of certified plantations.
Palm oil is used in the manufacture of M-Classic Peanut Butter for a number of reasons: we do not use peanut oil because it is very expensive; if we did not use palm oil, the peanut butter would not be as creamy; and the natural peanut oil content of the peanuts must also be taken into account.
Palm oil also acts as a stabilizer. The palm oil used complies with RSPO guidelines.
