Cheating the customer - Swiss tomatoes that come from Holland
Betrug am Kunden - Schweizer Tomaten die aus Holland kommen
Last Wednesday I went to our Migros store in Wetzikon with my partner to buy some groceries. As usual, we compared the tomatoes on offer in the vegetable section. As Migros no longer seems to consider it necessary to declare the production method (greenhouse or hors sol), I have gotten into the habit of checking the supplier labels on the side of the plastic display grids (if still available). Of course, this is only possible if they have not yet been removed by the staff. This time we were lucky, because the origin label was still attached to the side of the display rack. However, we were quite surprised when the label read "Country of origin Holland, production method Hors-Sol". Because on the board on which the tomato variety and price number was declared, it was written in large letters "vine tomatoes, country of origin Switzerland". My partner and I immediately approached the sales clerk and pointed out this obvious deception. However, she was visibly unimpressed and replied that this was normal. If there were still older ones of the same tomato variety (in this case vine tomatoes), these were simply offered with the others from Switzerland in order to "get rid of" them. The fact that 2 out of 3 display racks were filled with tomatoes from Holland, but the sign above them read "Switzerland of origin", was of little interest to the saleswoman. As she described a clear procedure, I assume that this was dictated by the manager. Normally, customers cannot check whether the tomatoes actually come from Switzerland, as the delivery notes have usually already been removed after sorting. Simply declaring foreign tomatoes to be Swiss tomatoes is a clear fraud on the customer. We feel cheated by Migros, as we mainly buy vegetables from Switzerland for ecological reasons (shorter transportation routes). Furthermore, it is also incomprehensible to us why the cultivation method has not been declared for a few weeks now.
Kind regards
