Basil, hidden price increase or even a discount?

Basilikum, versteckte Verteuerung oder gar Vergünstigung??

There is now basil (and oregano) in larger jars. 6g jar cost CHF 0.85 now 13g jar costs CHF 2.00 .... Hmhm, if I'm right, much more expensive? Why increase the price in such a hidden way? (If I'm really right. I found the price from the receipt, which should be correct?) Oregano 13g costs 1.75 CHF (but I no longer know the price with 6g) Addendum: I also found another receipt where: Basil 6g costs 2.25 CHF.

0.85 : 6 x 13 = 1.841666666666667 The 13-gram is therefore 16 centimes more expensive.

Exactly... We need it often and quite a lot, but now I'm confused. I have found other receipts. Basil 6g is the same everywhere and nothing about organic.... price 0.85 and also some with 2.25... ??? At 2.25 that would be reduced instead of increased in price? Am now really confused?

Hello Traberli, I'm happy to clarify. The price of basil 6 g was continuously adjusted to market conditions over the course of 2019. At the beginning of 2019 it cost CHF 2.25 and in autumn the selling price was CHF 0.85. As the market has become very dynamic, selling prices can change within a short period of time. At the beginning of 2020 we switched to the 13 g jar. As the raw material had become more expensive at the beginning of winter, the price correction was made with the introduction of the 13 g jar. With oregano, we have the opposite situation. Here, too, we switched to a 13 g jar and the selling price was lower compared to the 8 g jar. Kind regards, Sina

Take a look at Lidl and Aldi, where the jars of dried herbs are a lot cheaper.

I'll have a look. Good idea to try it, it just depends on the quality, I've had bad luck with basil from other manufacturers so far. The taste couldn't be compared. But they might have something good. It's not as good as I would like it to be in the Arab store... grgr Coop I rarely go there. In Germany at various stores it's just terrible...Fuchs and whatever they're all called don't really taste good.

I've always found the dried spices (basil, oregano etc.) from Lidl and Aldi to be flawless and tasty. It's best to try it out and decide for yourself.
