I bought some large, nice looking apricots, but the stone was broken in the front third of all of them and the almond was sticking out. ALL broken, even when I carefully opened the fruit. Is this a genetic defect or the result of genetic manipulation? Who knows about this?

...are harmless as long as they are not put in the mouth!
Now that nobody would think of eating an apricot stone, for example, the risk of poisoning is not particularly high (traces of hydrocyanic acid).
The stone of the early fruit can split if the soil is poor in nutrients and water or in extreme weather conditions.

The fact that the stone is broken is of a biological nature and has nothing to do with genetic manipulation. If the stone grows too quickly, it becomes brittle and breaks when the fruit is opened, but this rarely happens and is variety-specific.
The people responsible for the assortment have requested samples today so that we can check this.

Thanks for the answer. Then I must have had a cluster of rare cases. The stones didn't just break when I opened them though....

There are also people, I am one of them, who eat bitter apricot kernels on purpose.

It's not just you. I have experienced exactly the same thing with every apricot. The broken part of the stone is already broken off in the fruit and in every fruit (it has nothing to do with opening).
The answer about splitting the stone is unsatisfactory, as the stone is not split, but clearly broken.
