Apricots from the Valais

Yesterday I bought apricots from Valais. Thought I'd support the Swiss economy. They looked great, ripe and red-cheeked. But when I bit into them, I was disappointed: I've never eaten anything so sour in my life! The people of Valais seem to prefer to throw the juicy ripe apricots into the Rhone. I notice that the more unripe, sour fruit is sold, the longer it goes on sale. My stomach screams ouch every time!
