Apple that doesn't turn brown

Apfel der nicht braun wird

a lot has been written in the media in the last few days about apples that don't turn brown. they are said to be genetically manipulated etc. and approved in countries such as the usa. fortunately, they are banned in switzerland.
BUT
i meant and am almost 99.9% sure that such an apple was already on sale in migros last summer or the summer before last. it was also written about in m-magazine when it was introduced.

how is it now? is it also a genetically modified variety or just a cross-breed? i thought it was a variety similar to granny.

thanks in advance for the answer
