additives in fresh produce!

additifs dans produits frais!

Why are there so many additives in a slice of apple cake?
It's a real shame, as it is in almost all pastries!
So I'm buying less and less... What do you think?

Hello, thank you for your comment! We need additional information to process this case. Please send us concrete data (batch number, best-before date). Best regards, Tamara

Hello,

I have the impression that@josiane641asked a very general question. Here's an apple cake with its composition:https://produits.migros.ch/gateau-pommes

Another example: I love black forest pies, but after reading the recipe, I prefer to leave them on the shelf:https://produits.migros.ch/tourte-foret-noire-113306500000

And even if I decided to buy a vegan cake base and decorate it myself, I wouldn't fare any better :

Hello, additives are harmless to our health. They can only be used if rigorous toxicological tests have proven their safety.

Evaluating the safety and suitability of additives is the responsibility of various bodies:

- The Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives (JEFCA) of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

- The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

The EFSA's scientific body, the Group on Food Additives, Flavors, Processing Aids and Materials in Contact with Food (AFC Group), is made up of renowned scientists from all over Europe, who advise the European Commission on all aspects of safety. The EFSA works independently and draws its conclusions exclusively from in-depth scientific analysis, based on health considerations. Additives are constantly monitored by the EFSA to ensure that all new data are taken into account. Only those additives which have been checked by EFSA and are considered to be technologically necessary are granted authorization, together with an E number.

- In Switzerland, the Federal Office for Food Safety and Veterinary Affairs (OSAV) regulates the use of additives. Authorized substances (positive list) and their possible uses are set out in the Ordinance on Additives. Switzerland coordinates its decisions with international authorities.

Best regards, Richi

I'm well aware that the law on additives is respected, but a thorough review of their use should be the order of the day, especially for fresh produce that can be eaten quickly.
I still have the same question: why so many? But I still trust Migros because at least I know exactly what goes into the food I buy, so I can make informed decisions about my purchases?

Like Josiane641, I avoid products with too many additives if possible.
I'm convinced that many of them are harmful and that it's preferable to do without them.
By the way, I use an application to scan my food to see if there's too much fat, salt or sugar, and if the additives are harmful or not. It's really very interesting
