Today it actually happened what should never happen: our king cake without raisins (bought on MI, langnau i.E.) didn't have a king baked in it !!!! how do i explain this to my children in a credible way? !!!!! REALLY TRUE !!!!!

Horrible situation!
I once helped the local baker on the night of the 5th - 6th to knead huge quantities of king cakes. The king cakes were reserved for the baker, we helpers were only allowed to knead the normal ones. We prepared the large centers, he added his king cake and only then were we allowed to continue with the other cakes. This ensured that no one went into the oven without a king.

Hello empanada
You, of all people, have had exceptionally bad luck! Of course, it shouldn't happen that there's no king in the Epiphany cake... I hope you told your children that the court jester from Migros dozed off for a moment; the king had to admonish him and couldn't slip back into the cake in time. In short: Migros is to blame!
And so that we are even more attentive next year: Why don't you report it directly to Migros Langnau?
Kind regards

This year, our family had another intensive 3 King Cake days. Various suppliers, sizes and packaging were "tested" - the queen always remained our daughter ;-). The top ones at Migros are those from the in-house bakery. There's really nothing to complain about. Just as you would imagine. The first disappointment came when shopping at your competitor Coop in our neighborhood. The cake was shrink-wrapped and rubbery and soggy. Next attempt in our Migros in the same neighborhood. Unfortunately, no fresh Epiphany cakes either, just the packaged cakes. Well, Migros probably does it better. Well, it was just as rubbery as the Italian milk rolls, which can be kept for months. The sugar stuck to the surface. Well, enjoyment is different. Why can't small outlets offer freshly baked Epiphany cakes? Not everyone has time to run to the nearest bakery. Another compromise solution would be to bake the bread in-store, although I'm not a fan of this kind of bread as it usually doesn't keep for long. Here's to the next one ;-)

Hello moccetti
Thanks for the detailed testing and feedback! I'll be happy to pass it on - hopefully you'll be able to find freshly baked Epiphany cakes in your little branch next year.
Kind regards,

Many years ago we once had an Epiphany cake - also from Migros - in which there was a king in each ball - seven in total. Probably the joke of an apprentice... :-)
@Sirio,
perhaps the cake was intended for an old people's home, asylum or hospital, as the cakes for these institutions are often decorated with one king per scoop.

This year there was an article in the BZ (Berner Zeitung). Unfortunately I couldn't find the article!
