Your disappointment is understandable. The yeast needs to be stored at 5 °C at all times. We suspect that a break in the cold chain is the cause of the spoilage. Unfortunately, we cannot determine exactly where this happened after the fact. However, we have informed and sensitized all relevant areas so that handling will work better in the future. People should let us know if they have a convection refrigerator (preferably a combo model with a freezer!), because the cold chain shouldn’t be broken there. With standard refrigerators, it’s impossible to keep the temperature consistently below +5°C, even if the door stays closed for half the day. Where the yeast is stored in conventional refrigerators is also crucial. It’s best to store it in the back at the bottom and NEVER in the front at the top, where it’s warmest.

A little tip for shopping.
I bought a small plastic container, which I always take with me when I go shopping and then put in the fridge.
This way the yeast becomes moldy again. It is also less likely to get lost or squashed.
Could it be that the yeast has lost its driving force? I have been using it for a long time. But no longer with the usual success.

The expiration date is 20.06.24 / L 103A. Yesterday I also started a self-experiment with a dry yeast. Water/yeast/sugar with the fresh yeast hardly any bubble formation, the dry yeast sprouted externally quickly and violently.

Hello Tascha18, the fresh baker's yeast available in Migros - conventional (article number 115002700000) and organic (article number 115004000000) - comes from Hefe Schweiz AG, which only uses beet molasses or sugar syrup for its production. Contamination with gluten-containing ingredients can therefore be ruled out. The same applies to Le Patissier dry yeast (article number 102782400000). This means that the yeast must have been stored too warm for a long time.
