The pink grapefruits are very bitter...sometimes almost no flavor and enormously sour....I wish the yellow-fleshed ones were back... 🤢👍🏻
Differences in quality depending on season and supplier...
Bought three days ago and stored properly, now it is COMPLETELY moldy! What a pity.
I swear by the "Florida" variety. Juicy and sweet. We eat them plain for breakfast and don't want to sprinkle sugar on them. Unfortunately, the varieties from Spain, jaffa and South Africa are beyond this attribute. When the fruit is mixed in the store and it says "Spain" on the label and "jaffa" in it, it annoys me....
I have been eating grapefruit every day for over 30 years. Their color is getting redder and redder and the quality is constantly decreasing. Today's fruits usually taste of almost nothing and have tough intermediate skins. I've been missing the yellow fruits with the real grapefruit flavor for years.
Always good. Not bitter.
Pink grapefruits from the USA are the best.
Until about two years ago, the Migros grapefruits from around January to March were from Florida and of the Ruby Red variety. They were deliciously mild and highly aromatic, could be eaten without any additional sweetness and were my breakfast highlight. Then they came from Spain and from a different variety, were pretty to look at but extremely sour. That was also the case this year until a few days ago. I finally found the delicious ones from Florida again at Migros and tried them straight away. Unfortunately, they are already badly overdried and have (at least the one I just ate) the typical, slightly rotten taste that develops when a well-waxed fruit is left lying around for a long time and somehow suffocates. Now, of course, I'm going to be blown away by the environmental aspects, but as the difference in quality between Spanish grapefruits and those from Florida is so extreme, it would be a bit like running out of bananas for the sake of the environment and only getting apples instead. So, dear Migros, please supply the American Ruby Reds during the season and, in the medium term, look for really comparable fruit from Europe that is not only pretty but also good. Thank you very much, IchNochmal
