Meat declaration...

Fleischdeklaration...

Maybe I can't see very well, but I really haven't found anything: The ready meals from Anna's Best only declare the origin of the meat if it is from Switzerland. Then it is very prominent. And otherwise it simply says - nothing. Every restaurant is obliged to declare the origin. And Migros has also been exemplary up to now. But now?

I find this particularly offensive when it comes to chicken products. Until recently, it was declared that the chicken came from Brazil, but not any more, even though it could hardly come from anywhere else. I don't understand it anyway: Migros always makes a big deal about "sustainable" and "from the region" - and uses chicken from Brazil! Seriously? With that little bit of chicken in such a ready-made menu, what difference would chicken from Switzerland make to the price?

At the moment, for example, the chicken satay in a duo pack is on promotion. No declaration of origin there either. Why not? And why not chicken from Switzerland?

Hello MegaStar

Thank you for your message. I will contact our specialists straight away to find out exactly how the meat declaration works and why it is no longer on the packaging.

Kind regards
Tanja

Hello MegaStar,

The Swiss Foodstuffs Ordinance stipulates that the country of production must be indicated on the product. The country of production is the country in which most of the value creation (further processing/refinement) takes place or in which the characteristic properties are determined, e.g. if foreign meat is used in a product, this must be declared in the composition.

This is described in the FDHA Ordinance on the Labeling and Promotion of Foodstuffs (LKV) 17.022.21.

  • Chapter: Pre-packaged foodstuffs
    • Section: Country of production
      • 15 For foodstuffs
      • 16 For raw materials

The Thai Chicken Satay says:
  • Anna's Best: "Thai Chicken Satay 370g - The authentic chicken satay with Swiss chicken meat in a creamy peanut sauce is a real treat."
  • Migipedia: "Origin: Made in SwitzerlandIngredients: ...Chicken meat preparation 19% (chicken meat [ Switzerland ] 96%,...."
  • LeShop: "Origin: Made in Switzerland. Ingredients: ...chicken meat preparation 19% (chicken meat [ Switzerland ] 96%,...."
Since I added a lot of the ingredients on the packaging to the product descriptions on the discarded Migipedia, I am sure that the origin is also stated on the packaging. Maybe not on the banderole of the double packaging.

I don't have any products with poultry at home as I don't eat any.

As for the import of poultry: I assume that the Swiss eat more than they produce!

Kind regards

Tens of thousands of egg-laying chickens are disposed of (biogas, animal meal factory K1 products, sewage treatment plants) instead of being processed as meat (soup chicken) or animal feed. A truly life-despising method.

Hello MegaStar

I have good news for you: From 2015, all the meat we use in our Anna's Best ready meals will come from Switzerland - including the chicken. We are currently in the conversion phase, which is why there has been some confusion because the origin is sometimes stated and sometimes not. In principle, Migros is not obliged to state the origin of ready meals, as the meat content is less than 50%.

In future, however, you will no longer have to worry about where the meat comes from. I hope that we can complete the changeover phase as quickly as possible.

Kind regards
Tanja

Thank you very much, Tanja. That's good news.

I almost thought that Migros wasn't obliged to do this. But as they always set a good example, I would have liked them to. But it's even better this way. As soon as the chicken meat comes from Switzerland again and no longer from Brazil, Germany or Hungary, I can pop a ready-made meal in the microwave again every now and then ;-) Thanks again!

The time has come: the meat in all Anna's Best menus now comes from Switzerland again!

Have you tasted them all?
