Hello, I wanted to know why there are no biodegradable bags at Migros for fruit and vegetables because plastic bags are not good for the planet and in France they have already replaced all plastic bags with biodegradable ones.
Thank you for your message - and your commitment! Currently, a biodegradable plastic bag is generally made from sugar cane or corn. These raw materials are often genetically modified and come from countries that are themselves facing food shortages. What's more, since corn and sugar cane require a lot of water, fertilizers and pesticides, they are actually worse for the environment than a recycled plastic bag. For this reason, for the time being, we offer bags made from recycled material. However, we are keeping a close eye on developments, and if new solutions are developed that we can endorse, we will check our offer.
